Finding Species aims to reduce the impacts of climate change by decreasing citizens’ water consumption in Quito, the city with the highest per capita use in South America. The shrinkage of mountain glaciers – which feed wetland water sources in four protected areas – has increased by 35% in the last 50 years. The project proposes to use High Andean bird species as the emblem of a campaign to raise the awareness of the city’s population and forestall drainage of the wetlands; otherwise hundreds of gigatons of greenhouse gases would be released into the atmosphere, aggravating climate change.
